In response to the 8 Pastafarians arrested at a peaceful rally in Moscow on August 17th, the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) has announced an International Day of Resistance. Church members and all those who support free speech are to don colanders and strainers to protest in front of Russian embassies.
"We didn't get the water boiling, but we're going to cook in it." - anonymous Pastafarian
It all started in Moscow on August 17th when 100 followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (not to be confused with Noodlethulu, Pastapuzzu, or Jesuttoni ) peacefully went about their faith's traditional spiritual practice -- the "pasta procession." That pasta procession consisted of adherents wearing the head gear of their faith as well as handling the physical manifestation of the FSM. All sects of the religion were represented, from the fundamentalist Al Dente to the liberal Limpists. Everything was going well until the local police and zealots from the Christian group God's Will forced the celebrants to disperse. Eight Pastafarians were arrested on the charge of holding an unsanctioned rally.
"Jesus supposedly turned water into wine; we're going to turn Putin's tyranny into marinara."
- Alexi Romanov, follower of the FSM
"The rights of every person are diminished when the rights of one Pastafarian are abused."
- David Silverman, President of American Atheists
American Atheists have announced it will support the Pastafarians on their so-called March on Putin this September 29th. "We're not just about irritating people people with billboards, you know," stated David Silverman. "We're expecting our Atheist Rapid Response Teams (ARRT) to flood the grounds of Russian consuls and embassies on the 29th with a handful of protesters reading the names of the people who signed a strongly worded online petition against this injustice."
The Russian government has not responded to the upcoming protests.
