What Does God Need With A Starship?

Science fiction can ask really deep questions disguised in dreadful costumes and pointy ears. Take this clip from Star Trek V.

Now, it may be an obvious question to ask "What does God need with a starship?" because the idea of God needing a starship to travel about His creation sounds crazy.

But think about it for a minute.

What would happen if the people who worshipped God (or gods) started asking questions seriously about all the crazy stuff they're told to do?

Why does God want me to fly this jet into a building?

Why does God want me to sacrifice my own child?

Why does God need to have all the Amalekites killed?

What's God going to do with 120,000 slaughtered sheep and goats?

Why does God want me to eat His flesh and drink His blood?

And ultimately one gets the same answer from God: Do what I tell you to do or I'll zap you with these eye blaster beams (if you're in Star Trek V) or send you to Hell.

I'm with James T. Kirk.

I want a good reason.

Otherwise, God isn't getting the starship.

  1. What does God do with all those soul thingies? Does he put them on a shelf and collect them? Does he eat them? I hear they are delicious. ;-)
