|He's hoping to kill|
a lot of Jews.
It could always be worse -- much, much worse.
Take this article I found on Think Progress: At Fatah Event, Palestinian Cleric Recites Sermon For Killing Jews. I clicked over to the Reuters article and found it just wasn't some crazy imam off the street who wandered into a Palestinian event spewing Kill the Jews! No. This was the Palestinians top cleric, Mohammed Hussein, reciting this piece of the Hadith (sayings attributed to Mohammed), at Fatah's birthday bash
"The hour of judgment will not come until you fight the Jews," he said. "The Jew will hide behind the stone and behind the tree. The stone and the tree will cry, 'Oh Muslim, Oh Servant of God, this is a Jew behind me, come and kill him'."
I just want to point out that there is a very small cognitive step one takes from believing in a talking snake to thinking that stones and trees will talk to you. Once you cross that line any such absurdity naturally flows into a pit of tragedy. I'm reminded of one of Voltaire's famous quotes: Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices. However, it would be wrong to blame Mr Hussein for all of the anti-Jewish filth being spewed at the event. He had someone warm up the crowd for him...
Video of the rally circulated by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), an Israeli watchdog group, showed a man introducing the mufti [Mr Hussein] by saying: "Our war with the descendants of the apes and pigs is a war of religion and faith. Long live Fatah!"
You learn something new everyday. I never realized that Jews were the descendants of apes and pigs. But guess what? If the Koran said it, then it has to be true!
The Koran retells the Exodus story of some Jews rebelling against Moses after their deliverance from bondage, and says God punished them by turning them into pigs and apes. The Palestinian Authority quickly moved to resolve any questions of what the head cleric's statement really meant.
Palestinian religious affairs minister Mahmoud al-Habash confirmed the details of the rally as they appeared in the PMW video but said: "Our political position remains unchanged. We believe in peace. He (Hussein) was simply quoting a Hadith that talks about destiny, about what could happen in the future."The man of God wasn't talking about killing Jews right now, just about killing Jews in the future.
Don't you feel better about the American political system now?
For those of you have want to see the video, here it is.
This is Purgatory...
that is Hell.
