Results From Worst Idea In Christianity Poll

God loves you so much
that He created Hell.
Before going down the totals for the last poll I'm going to let you know how I voted (being a narcissist this seemed to be the obvious choice).

I find everlasting Hell to be the worst aspect of Christianity. The reason why I chose this as against the incredibly popular Faith>Reason has little to do with reason and everything to with more primitive areas of my brain. Even while the ascendancy of faith over reason is the root of religious idiocy, the idea of the Christian Hell stirs a type of disgusted primal response in me typically reserved for pedophiles and mass murderers. Hell is the embodiment of a sociopathic god's desire. As noted by Christopher Hitchens the Jewish version of JAWHEH is more or less content with making the lives of mortals miserable in this life while Gentle Jesus ups the ante infinitely. And as Hells go, Christianity's Hell is particularly noxious. As you may have noted on an earlier post Hinduism is well worth derision, but even their Hell looks comparatively better. The sinful Hindu must suffer away their foul deeds before being reincarnated into another form. They have a way out. Not so with the all loving God of the Christians. If you don't sign on the dotted line and become a member of J.C. Crew then expect an eternity of torture. Only those who have been given a faith based lobotomy would find that just.

What about the majority of humanity who have not seen the light? The Hell with you - literally. Didn't read God's memo? It clearly states that ignorance of the Christian God is no excuse. After all, doesn't every non-Christian have a little Jiminy Cricket on his or her shoulder whispering the Sermon on the Mount? Get with the program - or else.

Now that I'm done with that let's go through the results of the poll.

Everlasting Hell: 5%

Thinking of sin is the same as doing it: 4%
This verse:    But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Mathew 5:28, created quite a bit of anxiety for this writer during adolescence. A lot. I believe I sinned every seven seconds or so while awake. Who knows how much damnation I racked up while sleeping.

Whatever happens, it's God's plan: 5%
This is more of an irritation on a day to day basis. However, when some idiot tells you this just after your cancer diagnosis, well, irritating is no longer a strong enough word.

Natural disasters occur because of sin: 11%
The next time someone mentions this theory to me I'll ask them why Vatican City hasn't been wiped off the face of the planet.

No premarital sex: 4%
Once again, on a strictly mid brained level this answer resonated with me. When I was a Goddite my virginity and faith were bound together like a soft serve ice cream twist of chocolate and vanilla.

Women are inferior: 9%
To try and argue that this isn't the worst aspect of Christianity would be akin to trying to convince someone who is black that the Klan isn't that bad.

Homosexuality is immoral: 3%
See the answer above? It applies here, too.

Faith>Reason: 40%
This is clearly the root of the religio-induced insanity. If people simply reasoned more and believed less the world would be a far better place. Yeah, I'm not holding my breath either.

  1. Jesus said, “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
    Whats wrong with this

    1. Anonymous: nothing's wrong with that. I'm not aware of anyone who says that everything in the bible is bad.But then you have things like Matthew 10, where "What is wrong with this?" has a much different answer:
34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn

      “‘a man against his father,
      a daughter against her mother,
      a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—

a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[c]

37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
